Issue Position: Energy

Issue Position

Pennsylvania and our country needs to invest in comprehensive, common-sense solutions; using a "all hands on deck" approach to increasing energy options. This keeps energy costs reasonable for families, farmers, and business owners while allowing the transition from traditional energy sources from oil, coal, and natural gas to renewables like wind, solar, geo-thermal, and biofuels to take place.

Our state and region are blessed with wonderful resources to become a leader in energy aside from natural gas. We can not afford to let this opportunity pass us by.

However it takes leadership, creativity, and a willingness to make this happen.

Invest in Local Innovations

Pennsylvania is home to some of the world's most elite education instutions in America, regional schools like Carnegie Mellon, Penn State, and the University of Pittsburgh provide a wonderful opportunity to support research and innovation in renewable energy while our skilled workforce is willing to get to work for those who invest in new energy techonolgies.

However, one of the major hurdles to developing a new energy economy is the intinal cost. We need to provide low-interest financing, grants, and incentives to help attract the entrepreneurs and private business minds that will create the renewable energy technology of the 21st century.
